A new report conducted by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released findings that show teen sex rate for females at 44% and males at 47% is the lowest it has been in the last 25 years. The report was released earlier today. The age group surveyed were from 15 - 19 years old. The big statistic for me that mattered was a study that found that those who waited (late teens) until 18 or 19 years old to have sex for the first time were more likely to use contraception because they were more educated about it.
For all you fathers with teen daughters, female teens who didn't use contraception the first time they had sex were two to five times more likely to have a baby during their teen years. A worrisome number in my opinion. It is inevitable that the "sex" talk will happen and I think it is very important for parents to stress the importance of protection, not only from having a child at a young age but from STDs as well.
